What is the Thailand marriage visa?

Formally a Non-Immigrant O visa granted on the basis of marriage to a Thai national. It allows one-year renewable stays, with no age restriction, unlike the retirement visa, which requires applicants to be 50 or older.

Financial requirements: lower than you might expect

  • Bank deposit: 400,000 THB (compared to 800,000 THB for the retirement visa)
  • Income method: 40,000 THB monthly

Funds must be held in a Thai bank account for at least two months before your extension application.

Documents you’ll need

  • Valid passport with at least six months remaining validity
  • Thai marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3), or a registered overseas marriage with the required legalisation
  • Joint photographs, indoors and outdoors at your home, showing genuine cohabitation
  • Proof of residence: rental agreement or property ownership documentation
  • Thai spouse’s national ID and house registration
