What is the Thailand marriage visa?
Formally a Non-Immigrant O visa granted on the basis of marriage to a Thai national. It allows one-year renewable stays, with no age restriction, unlike the retirement visa, which requires applicants to be 50 or older.
Financial requirements: lower than you might expect
- Bank deposit: 400,000 THB (compared to 800,000 THB for the retirement visa)
- Income method: 40,000 THB monthly
Funds must be held in a Thai bank account for at least two months before your extension application.
Documents you’ll need
- Valid passport with at least six months remaining validity
- Thai marriage certificate (Kor Ror 2 and Kor Ror 3), or a registered overseas marriage with the required legalisation
- Joint photographs, indoors and outdoors at your home, showing genuine cohabitation
- Proof of residence: rental agreement or property ownership documentation
- Thai spouse’s national ID and house registration

- Renew annually with updated financial documentation
90-day reporting and re-entry permits
90-day address reporting is mandatory if you remain in Thailand continuously. A re-entry permit is required before any departure, or your visa is cancelled on exit.
If your relationship ends: divorce and visa status
The marriage visa becomes invalid upon divorce. If this happens, you’ll need to transition to a different visa category. Contact us as early as possible to plan the right next step.
